The U.S. needs to lead the fight against AIDS. President Bush announced at the beginning of the summer that he would seek a five-year $30 billion, five-year extension of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), which is currently set to expire on Sept. 30, 2008. Call and write your representative and senators asking them to support this extension.
WorldVision is asking you to send a quick e-mail to Congress encouraging them to support this important cause. It couldn't be easier! You don't have to look up their e-mail addresses or names, just fill out the form and it will send it to all of them! They ask,
Speak out for children affected by AIDS: The children of our world continue to carry a disproportionate burden from the AIDS pandemic. Ask Congress to swiftly reauthorize the Global AIDS Bill and ensure that children are not left behind in the fight against global AIDS.
By 2010, there will be 15.7 million children orphaned by AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa and 20.2 million children globally. There are currently an estimated 38.6 million people living with AIDS, and 28.2 million people have died of AIDS since its discovery. It is important to tackle AIDS aggressively, as we are seeing it get worse-- spreading quickly in India and Asia! Children are the hope of the future, and as the U.S. helps them, we change the pattern of history and AIDS for a hopeful future!
